Studies have found that women who drink two to three cups of coffee a day may have a lower risk of depression. Newer studies even suggest that coffee drinking may also lower risks for breast cancer, prostate cancer and stroke. One statistic found in this study was that women who consume four or more cups of coffee in a day have a twenty percent lower risk of developing depression. However, assistant professor of psychiatry urges caution to this study. She says that the women in the study were nurses and that drinking caffeine puts people in a better mood anyway.
I liked this article because it starts out that they think they have found something useful health wise in coffee, but then as you read on it tells you to take caution to the study because it could just be the natural side-effects of caffeine. I can see both sides to this, on one hand other good things have just been found out about coffee consumption; however, caffeine does put people in a better mood. On top of all that, caffeine is addicting anyway, why would they say things like this if they aren't really sure that that's what it really does? We have all these newly discovered foods and such that reduce the risk of different diseases but sometimes I wonder if they really know for sure, or do they just do a bunch of surveys and decide between connections? I can't really say whether I do or don't agree with this topic. In the future they might find out that consuming too much of any of these things can lead to worse things, or maybe they will turn out to be right and will have saved hundreds of live by putting out news articles like this. As you can see I am totally on the fence about this one. I just kept thinking of something that my mother used to tell me while reading this, "believe nothing that you hear and only half of what you see."
